Indy Racing League(IRL)
The Indy Racing League, better known as
IRL, is the sanctioning body of a predominantly American based open-wheel racing series.
The League consists of two series, the premiere IndyCar Series (usually considered synonymous with the Indy Racing League), whose centerpiece is the Indianapolis 500, and the Indy Pro Series, which is a developmental series for the IRL.
The IRL is owned by Hulman and Co., which also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway complex and the Clabber Girl brand
History
"Indy car" is sometimes used as a descriptive name for championship open wheel auto racing in the United States. The Indy car name derived as the result of the genre's fundamental link to the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race (often referred to as the "Indy 500"), the best known and most-popular open-wheel auto race in North America.
Beginning in 1980, the term Indy car was often used to describe the race cars in the events sanctioned by CART, which had become the dominant governing body for open-wheel racing in the United States. The Indianapolis 500, however, remained sanctioned by USAC. CART recognized the Indy 500 on its schedule, and awarded points for finishers in the race from 1980-1995 despite not sanctioning it. 2008 IndyCar Series season
The 2008 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series season will be the 13th season of the series. Its premier event will be the 92nd Indianapolis 500.
Schedule Details:
- The original official 16-race schedule was announced September 19, 2007. On February 26th it was announced that former Champ Car events at Long Beach, Edmonton, and Australia would be added to the 2008 schedule
- IRL teams will be running in the Indy Japan 300, while some of the former Champ Car teams will be running at Long Beach using their 2007 Panoz DP01 chassis. However both races will count toward the 2008 title.
- No date for the Edmonton race has been announced; it was previously scheduled to for the same weekend as the Honda 200 at Mid-Ohio.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
The "NASCAR Sprint Cup Series" is the sport's highest level of professional competition and the most popular NASCAR series. NASCAR races are not conducted on identical tracks, Oval tracks, Tri-ovals, Quad-oval, D-oval and more.
NASCAR Nationwide Series
The "NASCAR Nationwide Series" is the second-highest level of professional competition in NASCAR. The Nationwide Series is the only series of the top three to race outside the United States.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
The "NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series" features modified pickup trucks. It is the only series in all of NASCAR to race modified production pickup trucks.
